A bulk monosodium glutamate price quotation needs a clear material specification, packing, quantity and delivery basis. Send suppliers one consistent request, separate confirmed costs from estimates, and compare the total for the same quantity and endpoint. Resolve missing information before selecting an offer or issuing an order.
Write one RFQ that every supplier can answer
Begin with the intended product and buying specification. If the request is for Fufeng MSG, state the brand requirement explicitly and ask the supplier to identify the proposed material and supporting documents. If you are exploring alternatives, ask for separate offers so that a substitution is visible rather than hidden within a lower price.
Include the particle specification and the agreed sieve method or distribution requirement in the RFQ. Ask the supplier to confirm the specific 20-, 60- or 80-mesh requirement and provide the relevant sieve data. The reply should identify the offered material and any requirement still awaiting confirmation.
Subject: MSG quotation request - [quantity] - [destination] Product / required brand: [description] Application: [finished-product or process context] Specification revision: [reference or attached requirements] Requested particle description: [requirement; confirm availability] Net quantity and tolerance request: [kg and proposed tolerance] Packing: [net kg per package; pallet requirements if applicable] Delivery basis: [same stated trade term and named place for all offers] Required arrival window: [dates; request feasibility confirmation] Documents to confirm: [specification, lot COA, packing details, others] Sample / approval status: [pending, approved reference, or requirements] Please state: currency, unit basis, price validity, exclusions, payment proposal, dispatch estimate and assumptions behind the estimate. Please identify all deviations from this request separately.
Confirm destination-specific document requirements with your importer or appropriate advisers and include them in the RFQ.
Normalize the quotations before comparing price
Place each response in a comparison sheet with one row per issue: product identity, specification revision, net quantity, packing, currency, unit basis, stated trade term, named place, validity and exclusions. Use a separate status column for confirmed, estimated and missing information. An empty cell is an unresolved cost or requirement, not a zero.
If you request an FOB offer for Fufeng MSG, identify the named port and ask for an itemized description of the quoted scope. Compare it with offers on the same stated basis before building the remaining cost worksheet. Confirm responsibilities and charges in the actual offer and shipping arrangements; do not infer them from an abbreviated heading alone.
Check whether a price is per kilogram, per metric tonne, per package or per shipment. Convert units visibly and keep both the supplier's original figure and your normalized figure. If currencies differ, record the exchange-rate source, date and assumption used for the comparison instead of treating the converted amount as fixed.
Use a cost worksheet with a defined endpoint
Define the endpoint, such as delivery to the named factory, and list the costs needed to reach it. Include only charges applicable to your shipment and comparison purpose. Ask qualified logistics and importing counterparts to confirm route-specific amounts and local charges. Keep uncertain amounts as estimates or open items.
| Worksheet item | Offer A | Offer B |
|---|---|---|
| Planned net quantity | 20,000 kg | 20,000 kg |
| Goods amount | 16,000 | 16,400 |
| Transport to the same endpoint | 2,400 | 1,800 |
| Other included comparison costs | 600 | 500 |
| Comparison total | 19,000 | 18,700 |
| Estimated cost per planned kg | 0.950 | 0.935 |
Here the lower goods amount does not produce the lower comparison total. The example assumes the same specification and quantity, and includes only the rows shown. It is not a complete import estimate. Add every applicable charge before using the result for approval, and mark amounts already included in another row to prevent double counting.
Distinguish planning cost from received cost
Before shipment, divide the comparison total by the planned net quantity. After receipt, calculate the actual total using the quantities and costs accepted in your accounting and receiving records. If the denominator is accepted usable kilograms, label it that way and record the basis. Do not quietly compare one supplier using ordered quantity and another using accepted quantity.
Keep a variance column for changes in goods amount, logistics, exchange-rate assumptions or accepted quantity. Record the reason and preserve the original estimate. Reconcile received quantities with the warehouse record before closing the purchase-cost comparison.
Close the gaps before confirming the order
Ask the supplier to separate production or dispatch estimates from transit assumptions and the requested arrival date. Treat every timing statement as something to confirm for the specific order. Review quotation validity, specification deviations and unresolved documents with the relevant owner before issuing the purchase order.
